The History

Getting to Lake Diablo from I-5To reach Lake Diablo from I-5, follow these directions:
From I-5 North or South: Take Exit 230 for WA-20 East towards Burlington/Sedro-Woolley.
Continue on WA-20 East: Drive approximately 50-60 miles on WA-20 East. You will pass through several small towns and the landscape will become increasingly mountainous.
Entering North Cascades National Park Complex: As you continue on WA-20, you will enter the Ross Lake National Recreation Area, which is part of the North Cascades National Park Complex.
Diablo Lake Overlook (Iconic Lookout): The Diablo Lake Overlook will be prominently on your right as you drive along WA-20. This is the iconic spot to pull over and view the stunning turquoise waters of the lake.
Diablo Dam: To get closer to the dam and potentially the visitor center (if open), continue past the main overlook. There will be signs for Diablo Dam or Diablo. Follow these signs.
Important Notes:
WA-20 (North Cascades Highway) is typically closed during winter months due to heavy snow. Check road conditions before you travel, especially outside of summer.
Cell service can be spotty or nonexistent in the North Cascades, so it's a good idea to download maps beforehand.
Be aware of wildlife and drive carefully, especially on winding mountain roads.
